Third Call of the Best Poverty Reduction Case Studies Recognized

Beijing, The People's Republic of China 11 Nov 2021

On 11 November 2022, the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), the China Internet Information Center (CIIC), the World Bank (WB), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), Asian Development Bank (ADB) co-initiated the Third Call of Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices, and announced the 104 winners at the 2022 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships. Seven organizers gave certificates to the representatives of winners and launched the Fourth Call.

Xia Gengsheng, Vice Administrator of National Rural Revitalization Administration of the PRC delivered a speech in the opening ceremony of the seminar, pointing out that the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices focuses on international organizations and individuals valuing poverty reduction and development, collecting cases that could be understood, learned, and practiced. It aims at sharing global practices of poverty reduction and the PRC’s experience of poverty reduction without any reservation through case studies.

Zhang Hao, Deputy Country Director, ADB Resident Mission in the PRC said the Asian Development Bank has placed great importance in the Global Solicitation of Best Poverty Reduction Practices Initiatives underscored by its participation since the first call and consistently being the largest international case study contributor. There is certainly much for countries to learn from each other. What is important is not to simply share the cases, but to tell an inspiring human story that touches everyone’s heart that they too can make a difference to their communities wherever that may be.

The Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices was initiated in 2018, attracting organizations and individuals across the world. A total of 1,831 poverty reduction cases were collected since then,over 200 cases were submitted by international organizations and NGOs including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and research institutions including Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET). The cases involve poverty alleviation programmes being carried out in Afghanistan, Nepal, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Philippines, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Myanmar, India and more than 50 other countries. 517 cases were collected during the Third Call of Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices.
